More Oil Is Not The Answer!

More Oil Is Not The Answer!

We are addicted to petroleum. As a country, as a planet, we are hopelessly addicted. The same way a crack addict can’t give up the rock, we just can’t help ourselves. Every day we get up and get our fix. And it’s not just the gas you put in your car. It’s the crap we buy, the food we eat and clothes we wear. Most of it gets here from somewhere else, and that take’s oil. High gas prices affect us in almost all aspects of our lives. Just check out this list:

1. Airline Prices Climbing
2. Auto Manufacturers Recording Record Losses
3. Delivery/Shipping Costs Rising
4. Education Cutbacks
5. Food and Manufactured Goods Prices Climbing
6. Gas Station Owners Losing Money Due to Drive-offs and Thefts
7. Government Spending Cutbacks
8. Healthcare Costs Rising
9. Housing Market Suffering in Outlying Areas and Suburbs
10. Inflation Rate Climbing
11. Job Market Shrinking
12. Public Transportation Costs Rising
13. Restaurants and Fast Food Suffering Losses From Lowered Patronage
14. stock market In Decline Due to Less Consumer Confidence
15. Taxi Service Fees Rising
16. Tourism and Hospitality Suffering Losses Due To Declining Number of Visitors
17. Truck Drivers Suffering From Lower Wages Due to Increased Fuel Costs
18. Unemployment Rate Climbing
19. Slowing Economy Due to Consumers Having Less Discretionary Money
20. Health Risks Increasing Due to Stress and Tension over Financial Burdens Caused By Fuel Prices.

Now, while I was advocating drilling for more oil in my previous rant, ultimately the answer to high gas prices is not flooding the market with more oil. It’s breaking our addiction to oil. How righteous would it be to find an alternative fuel source that was highly available that didn’t give off carbon emissions? Even more righteous would be sitting back and watching the oil companiesand the Middle East drown in all their oil. Well that fuel source does exist.

Hydrogen is the most abundant substance in the universe. As an added bonus it can be burned in normal combustion engines or be used as fuel in electric vehicles. I’m having trouble finding a down side here. So what’s the problem? Why is this solution currently limited to a couple of buses and taxis in major cities and car company concepts? I wish I could say.

I’m sure that the conspiracy nut theories abound, and without trying to put myself too deep into that category, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that big oil and car companies have something to do with it. Just check out the record profits oil companies are making .

Let me give you an example. I live in America. We’re supposed to be the guiding light of the modern world. The amount of technology that this country has come up with in the last 50 years is beyond comprehension. Yet we’ve done basically nothing with how we power our vehicles. Think of the advances in every other industry over that time span. Is this really the best the automotive industry can do? Well guess what, Scandinavians are doing it better. By 2012, Norway will have a highway with a complete network of hydrogen refueling stations throughout the southwest of Scandinavia. Better yet, these hydro stations are completely self-contained and produce the hydrogen onsite from the municipal water supply. No huge refineries, just easily deployed, self-contained hydrogen stations.

So tell me, why is Scandinavia bringing this technology to fruition before the big bad U.S? I mean seriously, Scandinavia? Are you freakin kidding me? Kudos to them for their foresight, and shame on us for our lack of vision. I’ll also give some credit to California and Schwarzenegger for putting a couple of hydrogen stations on the map. I guess Scandinavia’s government isn’t bought and paid for by big oil corporations.

Anyway, the point that I am trying to make is that this technology is real, it’s viable, it’s something not even the tree huggers can complain about, so why not use it? Let’s get ourselves off the big oil addiction and lead this planet in a fuel revolution. Our future economic and personal financial growth depends on it. That’s it, I’m done.

Jobs In Oil Field: What Are The Top Paying Jobs Today?

Jobs In Oil Field: What Are The Top Paying Jobs Today?

On August 26 2008, CNN Money reported that oil drillers are scrambling for workers. Too many years of under-investment in oil rigs and workers alike, coupled with the surge in oil prices over the last few years has led to a major shortage of experienced workers in oil fields at all levels. Noble Corporation, one of the world’s largest offshore drilling companies, has 1500 rig job openings in the next 2 years for their 5 new oil rigs. Every oil company is deploying new oil rigs everywhere from the Gulf of Mexico and the deep water off Brazil to the coasts of Africa and Saudi Arabia to meet today’s increased demand for oil.

Filling the jobs in these offshore oil fields is proving to be a major challenge. Despite sky-high salaries in the range of $50,000 to $80,000 even for new hires, there are not many takers for these offshore jobs. There are several reasons for this reluctance:

Not many people are willing to live in the middle of the ocean on an oil rig Political volatility and armed violence, for example rebels and insurgents in Nigeria and other African nations, potential terrorists in Saudi Arabia. Physical danger from storms like the recent Gustav and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Dangerous accidents like the 1988 Piper Alpha drilling rig in the North Sea – 167 of the 226 men on board died when the oil rig caught fire

Predictably, the highest salaries drawn in oil companies are the executives with titles starting with “C”, like CEO, CFO, etc. Then you have the VPs and top salesmen. But what about jobs and salaries for new hires? Well, in February, The Wall Street Journal reported that new petroleum engineering graduates received starting salaries of $80,000 to $110,000, not including various perks and signing bonuses. This demand is in no danger of peaking anytime soon. Oil companies are hiring petroleum engineering freshman students as summer interns, paying as much as $32.50 an hour. Texas Tech reports its 2008 graduating seniors will receive an average salary of $110,000.

Geologists, too, are in great demand. The American Geologic Institute reports that the average starting salary for a geologist fresh out of school is $81,300, up from $55,000 in 2003. At their April meeting, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists reported that graduate students (Masters and PhD) were receiving salaries of $80,000 to $110,000. The good news for job seekers is that the demand for geologists for is unlikely to be filled anytime soon. The American Geological Institute reports that out of 20,000 geology undergraduates, only 2,800 attain their BSc after 4 years of study. In addition, many of today’s oil industry geologists started work in the 1970s, and will be retiring in the next few years. Taken together, these facts mean that more and more geology vacancies are going to open up in oil companies in the coming decade, with salaries likely to increase further. It seems that, even today, taking up a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Geologic Engineering is well worth it. Beefing this up with a Master’s in Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, Structural Geology or Geophysics will almost certainly net you an extra $20,000 or $30,000.

With increasing demand for oil from China and India, as well as continuing demand from the US and Europe to drive the search for more oil, the job vacancies in oil fields and offshore drilling rigs will remain unfilled for some time to come. This is definitely the hot job of the next two decades.

This Country Needs >1 Million Hihg Paying Jobs Per Year

This Country Needs >1 Million Hihg Paying Oil Jobs Per Year

Imagine the high paying jobs created with Congress releasing Americans to produce our
own Energy!

Economists in the US, as well as the rest of the Western World, provide this summation of the answer high paying job creation:

21st Century growth will be led by ENERGY!

The consensus holds that energy independence, PRIMARILY in the US, will put the US in the leadership role to help our own economy as well as the economies of our friends and allies worldwide. Now is NOT the time to say that our best years are behind us; rather, it is the time to proclaim that we look forward to even better years ahead. Our leadership role is to be cherished and not abused, and assuredly NOT apologized for. The Prerequisite? Congress MUST act now, by getting rid of onerous regulations intended to placate some special interest at the expense of your current and future prosperity. Let your Congressman know that YOU are watching as you prepare to vote in November.

ACTIONS REQUIRED

1. Begin drilling for oil off-shore, and in ANWAR
2. Build as many refineries as are required by the market
3. Process coal to produce clean coal oil
4. Begin the construction of at least 50 nuclear power plants
5. Perfect the process of extracting oil from shale in the Rocky Mountain States
6. Research and improve solar-powered energy where possible
7. Wind Power is a political football;everybody is
for it(for the last 35 years),but it hasn’t succeeded on a large scale because of ‘technical’ problems and the Market hasn’t ‘bought in’. Design/manufacture more fuel-efficient vehicles, using CNG immediately, if and only if the market pays for it
9. Conserve energy responsibly
10. With these energy innovations, extract potable water from the oceans cost-effectively to simplify the technology for use wherever in the world it’s needed.

Can you imagine the unity and enthusiasm that will pervade the USA when we have such determination and purpose? What the market is demanding is NOT a series of iterative improvements to that which has already been accomplished – NO! What the market is screaming for is a full range of new technologies, which become do-able with the unbridled development of the best of our energy resources noted above.

Any thinking person can see that our economy will add 500,000 to a million high paying jobs in a typical MONTH!) than were given out in the depression-era WPA (relative to the population too).

The technical development required to extract energy from the wide variety of sources in the US will demand skilled employment in the fields of petroleum, nuclear, geological, automotive, civil, agriculture, solar, and wind-turbine technologies; and should even lead to Economical means of ocean water purification. Moreover, capital equipment industries supporting new technology for automobile manufacturing and ALL other manufacturing will see an unprecedented revival.

Quite clearly, the market will price the goods and services required to take the US from a significant net importer of energy to becoming a significant net exporter of energy.

This is a challenge to our educational network as well as to our related industries. The challenge will provide great rewards for those who actively or passively participate as well as to the nation by way of spurring economic growth in the 21st century.

Read as many other articles that relate to national security and the World Economy as you can….make yourself informed!

Meanwhile, take immediate action in 2 ways:
1. Contact your congressman and say: drill, drill, drill! (If he wants to keep his congressional seat).
2. Tell your friends to do the same. It’s that important!

Something In The Pipeline? Guide To Careers In The Oil And Gas …

Something In The Pipeline? Guide To Careers In The Oil And Gas Industry

Today we see a global multi-billion dollar industry impacting to a greater or lesser degree on almost every facet of 21st Century life. As is continually highlighted in the business and mainstream media, the industry plays a critical role in driving the global economy. Petroleum is used as a source for numerous products, in addition to serving as the world’s primary fuel source whilst natural gas is the fastest growing energy source with consumption projected to rise by almost 70 percent by 2025.

The processes and systems involved in producing and distributing oil and gas are highly complex, capital-intensive and require state-of-the-art technology. These systems also require an extensive breadth of expertise applied in an incredible range of jobs across the planet to ensure its continued success. Oil and Gas jobs search offer a huge range of fascinating roles including positions in exploration, drilling and extraction, transportation and storage, mechanical, electrical and project engineering. As the industry is so wide-ranging, the list of different positions available is almost endless; however, some job titles include:

Engineering geologist
Environmental manager
Geoscientist
Mudlogger
Petroleum engineer
Wellsite geologist
Cartographer
Drilling engineer
Health and safety adviser
Information scientist
Market researcher (qualitative/quantitative)
Statistician
Systems/business analyst
Trader (equities, FX, futures, bonds)
Training and development officer/manager.

Let’s look in greater detail at a number of these roles.

Geoscientists: Providing the foundation for the discovery of exploitable reserves of natural resources such as oil and gas, a geoscientist interprets geophysical, geochemical and geological data to develop models of the earth’s subsurface. Not only are they involved in the exploration and appraisal of new fields, feasibility studies and field development planning, but also in optimising recovery of the producing field. Job titles such as geophysicist, geochemist and sedimentologist are also used for specialist roles within geoscience.

Engineering geologists: Offer detailed technical analysis and broad scientific site impact assessments. They assess the integrity of natural conditions prior to major construction schemes and advise on necessary procedures and appropriate construction materials.

A Mudlogger (or logging geologist or mudlogging geologist) collects and monitors information from drilling operations, such as drilling data including speed of rotation, rate of penetration, pump rate, cutting rate, mud flow rate.

Production/Operations managers are responsible for efficiency, quality, costing and control of industrial processes. An important part of a Production Managers job is co-ordinating and liaising with other industry professionals such as Construction Engineers, Project Managers and Engineers, Commissioning Professionals, Maintenance, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers as well as Piping and Drilling experts.

The Oil and Gas Industry really is a ’something for everyone’ type of industry: an immense industry with a vast reach and vast range of opportunities.
